SEPARATION - DE FACTO COUPLES
De facto partners also have similar concerns to married couples on separation. The care of children of de facto couples is dealt with under the Family Law Act 1975 in the same way as children of a marriage.
However, the division of property of a de facto relationship is governed by different laws to the division of property of a marriage, and is covered by legislation in NSW known as the Property Relationships Act 1984 .
